AUGUST | The Harvest Husk Doll : Crafting Abundance with Sami

$45.00

Cultures throughout the world have celebrated this liminal time - as Summer reaches full ripening and begins to descend into Fall - by creating a doll with the husks of their grain. These husks carry the energy of the earth and all that she has provided throughout the year. In this workshop we’ll craft our own doll as a way to honor the earth, the abundance of the season, and our desires for the future. The doll can be placed upon our altars, "fed" and adorned with gratitude and intentions, and hold a special place in our homes through the coming months as the days grow shorter. Ways to expand upon and complete the ritual are as many and varied as your imagination. We'll explore all of this in the workshop.

Materials needed:

  • Paper & pen

    Corn husks (fresh or dried)

    String

    Candle & incense

DATE : Monday, August 19

TIME : 6-7:30pm PDT
LOCATION : Online on Zoom

Zoom link will be sent the day-of program, and you’ll receive a recording available for 3 months after the program date.

Meet your guide.

sami is an earth-loving, gardening, beer-drinking heathen.

As a dancer, drummer, and sculptor - embodiment & transformation are central to all of her rituals and folk magic practices. She began learning to read Tarot while earning an MA in Women's Spirituality (a program rooted in social justice and unearthing our ancient wild-ness).

She and her partner have co-created a garden business in San Francisco, a dream/doom-y rock band, and a never-ending list of projects. They are adoring parents of a rascally tabby cat.

sami descends from Mormon pioneers and British immigrants - which informs her being completely, in all of its complications. (she calls herself a heathen for a reason.) She's an enamored student of Scottish folk & herb lore, Celtic life ways, and loves learning the dances, rhythms and songs of Vodun and Lucumi. She is fascinated with spiritual traditions from all around the world, but her own practice is land-based; devoted to Mama Earth and tending Fire.

sami has been working with Tarot for insight, divination, ancestor work, and ritual-crafting for over 17 years. She reads the cards from an animist perspective. She's been practicing plant spirit medicine for... well maybe since childhood. Among her closest plant spirit allies are Brugmansia, White Sage, Bay, Tobacco, Pine & Fir, Rosemary, Aspen, and Lavender.
